Introduction
The LCD-DEMO-SC development tool is a single-chip solution for implementing an LCD user interface with the NXP LPC9408 along with a couple of discrete external components. The board is controlled by a two-button user interface allowing you to control the 8-character alphanumeric LCD display. A 128-segment PCF8562 I2C-based LCD driver is included on the board. An on-board 10-pin header allows you to use any external ICP style programmer to edit and download source code to the reprogrammable flash microcontroller. With the microcontroller's full 8KB of flash memory, the LCD-DEMO-SC can also function as a Single Board Computer with multiple I/O options supported by its 12-pin header.
The full kit includes the LCD demo board and a CD containing sample code, schematics, and ICP documentation.

Key Components

The demo board includes the following key components:
  • NXP LPC9408 8KB flash microcontroller
  • 8-character alphanumeric LCD
  • 3V coin cell battery
The NXP LPC9408 is a multi-chip module (MCM) made up of the following two devices:
  • NXP LPC938 (8-bit, 2-clock, 80C51 MCU):
  • 8KB flash, 256 bytes RAM
  • 64-pin LQFP64 package
  • Internal RC oscillator
  • UART
  • ADC
  • DAC
  • Two 16-bit timers and RTC
  • Keypad interrupt
  • WDT with on-chip 400KHz oscillator
  • NXP PCF8576D LCD Controller:
  • 400KHz I2C-bus interface
  • No external components
  • Wide supply range
  • 32x4-bit RAM for display data storage
When used as a Single Board Computer, the I/O expansion header provides access to:
  • UART, I2C, SPI
  • 4 A/D inputs
  • Timer1 I/O and the clock output
Note: The LCD-DEMO-SC supports both the P89LPC9408 and the P89LPC9401.
