NXP PCA9698 Demo BoardIntroduction
Easily Test and Demonstrate the PCA9698 40-Bit GPIO
This add-on to NXP's I2C 2005-1 demo board makes it easy to test and design with the PCA9698, a Fast-mode Plus (Fm+) GPIO device, that provides 40-bit I/O expansion with outputs capable of sourcing 10mA and sinking 25mA with a total package load of 1A.

PCA9698 Demo Board
The PCA9698 Demo Board contains the NXP PCA9698, four status LEDs, seven user-controllable LEDs, and a high-intensity RGB LED.
![]() Uses
The board is designed to quickly set-up, allowing you to explore configuring the PCA9698 with a simple GUI interface.
The board's layout provides access to the 40 advanced GPIO pins using standard 0.100" spacing headers.
On-board LEDs are present so that the user can visually check the effect of changing register settings in the PCA9698.
A user manual is available describing three commonly used configurations:
Demonstration 1: Controlling LEDs Using GPIO Output
This demonstration shows you how to use the PCA9698 in GPO mode through turning on and off the on-board LEDs.
Demonstration 2: GPIO Input
In this demonstration, you explore GPIO input using polling mode and interrupt mode.
Demonstration 3: LED Blinking and Dimming with the PCA9530
This colorful demonstration pairs the PCA9698 with a PCA9530 to create a powerful visual experience.
The PCA9530 controls the OE pin of the PCA9698, creating eye-catching blinking and dimming patterns.
