LCD number displaysIntroduction
Numbers
Numbers can be built from the familiar 7-segment block.
Additional segments are commonly used for decimals or other indicators.
LCD number displays are driven by segment drivers.
Each segment of the display is controlled individually.
Segments that comprise a number are addressed in multiples of eight corresponding to a numeric 7-segment portion and an additional indicator or icon.
Groups or lines of number segments are, in turn, matrixed to reduce display layout complexity.
A segment driver that can drive 4 x 32 segments, for example, can control a display with a maximum of 128 segments.
This might be commonly used to control a display with sixteen 7-segment numbers with 16 "leftover" segments available for decimal, power indicators, and so on.
