I2C A/D or D/A converters

Introduction
It is frequently required to record analog information, such as temperature, pressure, battery level, signal strength, etc. The analog voltage information from the diode, pressure sensor, transducer, etc., needs to be converted to digital 1s and 0s (ADC) so that the information can be processed by a microcontroller and subsequently displayed, used to control contracts, switches, relay, etc.
Conversion from digital 1s and 0s to analog voltages (DAC) is also useful for applications like LCD contrast control.
I2C A/D or D/A converters provide an easy way to convert between digital and analog signals and send the information via the I2C.
Features
The PCA9691 and PCF8591 are capable of converting four different analog voltages to digital values for transmission on an I2C-bus of for processing by a microcontroller. The PCF8591 can also generate one analog voltage output by converting an 8-bit digital value transmitted by the microcontroller. The PCF8591 has a maximum 100KHz I2C-bus frequency supporting a maximum conversion rate of 11KHz while the newer PCA9691 supports the new Fast-mode Plus (Fm+) 1000MHz I2C-bus which allows it to support a maximum conversion rate of 110KHz. The analog output capabilities of the PCA9691 are ideal for use in generating 'ear friendly' buzzer sounds.
